Description
The Akira class starship has been a fan favorite ever since she first appeared on screen in Star Trek: First Contact. I had the opportunity to work on a 25th century iteration of this design - but in tandem with that project I also wanted to refresh the Akira model in Star Trek Online.
The original Akira model's basic shapes and proportions were accurate, so I spent most of my time on this one carving out the distinctive hull plating and surface details that helped make the Akira so unique.
Unfortunately the original Akira model was made before I joined the STO team so I don't know who made it.

I have always loved the Akira Class design. I know that it, along with the NX Class, were based off of early drawings for DS9's USS Defiant, and the designs rejected for the Defiant Class led to the NX and Akira Class, but I love both of these classes on their own.
